Q: What does the word "andante" mean?

A: It is a musical term calling for a moderately slow tempo, although its meaning has changed over time. Click here to read what esteemed critic Charles Rosen has to say about the word.

Q: The andante web site is dedicated to classical music and opera, but is it intended for people who don't know anything about the music or for professionals and aficionados?

A: We intend andante to be a window into the world of classical music and opera for everyone. We have introductory materials for newcomers, services for professionals, daily news and reviews for culture junkies, and much, much more.

Q: What is andante's privacy policy regarding user-profile information?

A: andante makes every effort to ensure that its user data remains secure. andante does not release user information to third parties, except when necessary (i.e., transaction processing). This information is never sold to third parties for marketing purposes. Please see the privacy statement describing andante's privacy policy.

Q: Where is andante based?

A: The mailing address for our main office is andante Corp c/o Coblence & Associates, 200 Park Avenue South, Suite 910, New York, NY 10003. We have contributors and relationships with cultural institutions from all over the world.

Q: When I try to access material in the reference section, calendar, musicroom or web directory, I am asked to log in. Why?

A: Those sections of andante are accessible to paying members only. andante's magazine, business directory and boutique sections are free and do not require membership. You can also listen to andante radio without a membership.

Q: What are the software and hardware requirements for the andante site?

A: To use andante you need a computer, an Internet connection and, if you want to listen to music, a sound card. andante is compatible with web browser versions 5.0 and up. We recommend using Internet Explorer versions 5.0 and up, or Netscape Navigator versions 6.2 and up. We support Windows 98, 2000, NT and XP operating systems and Mac OS 8.6 and up.
Many sections of andante require the use of JavaScript and cookies. To learn how to enable them, check your browser's help screens.

Q: Why isn't andante compatible with Netscape 4.7 or 4.78?

A: Netscape 4.7 and 4.78 are well-liked by many people, but they lack support for widely established web standards, which makes it extremely difficult for us to maintain reliable service. We blocked access to Netscape 4.7 and 4.78 so that users won't crash their computers when viewing andante. You can learn more about the impact of web standards here: http://webstandards.org/upgrade.

Q: What do I need to do in order to listen to andante's musical presentations?

A: In addition to an Internet connection and a computer equipped with a sound card, you will need Windows Media Player installed on your computer. andante uses these applications to transfer music over the Internet to your computer.

We are currently evaluating other methods for streaming and will allow users to use other players in the future.

Q: How do I change my billing information after I have created an account with andante.

To make a permanent change to your billing information, go to the andante home page, click on "My Account" and select "Change your account information"; you may be required to fill in a few additional fields. Please note that if you are an andante member and you change your billing information through "My Account," this change will apply to your membership billing as well.
