Mary Vallentine, the longtime managing director of the Sydney
Symphony Orchestra, is stepping down, the Australian Broadcasting Company
reports.
Vallentine joined the orchestra in 1986 and managed the
ABC-controlled enterprise's successful transition to an independent
organization. She has also been credited with boosting the orchestra's artistic
reputation, ABC says.
Vallentine told ABC that she is looking forward to
a change and believes the orchestra will continue to be successful. "It's going
to be a fascinating and interesting time as I see what the next phase of life
has to offer and what I have to offer it," she said.
