Sergey Khachatryan

Sergey Khachatryan was born in 1985 in Yerevan, Armenia, into a musical family. He began his studies with Prof. Josef Rissin of the Karlsruhe Musik Academy.
In December 2000 Sergey won First Prize in the VIII International Jean Sibelius competition in Helsinki, and became the youngest ever winner in the history of the competition. Sergey has subsequently appeared throughout Finland, most recently performing the Khachaturian Concerto with the Finnish Radio Symphony and Mikko Franck.
Following his UK debut in March 2001 with the English Chamber Orchestra, Sergey has given performances throughout Great Britain, with orchestras including the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra; the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; the BBC Philharmonic and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestras.
The 2003-2004 season saw Sergey's debut in Japan performing the Khachaturian Concerto with the Tokyo Philharmonic under Vladimir Fedoseyev and his debut at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra, again performing the Khachaturian Concerto, performances of the Bach double Concerto with Anne Sophie Mutter and the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sibelius Concerto with Neeme Järvi and the BBC Philharmonic at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.
Other highlights from the season include performances of the Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Manfred Honeck in Amsterdam; the Beethoven Concerto with Günter Herbig and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and a New Year's concert with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra.
His recital engagements include performances at the Wigmore Hall in London; the Chatelet Theatre in Paris; the Tonhalle in Zurich; the Lincoln Center in New York; the Societa del Quartetto di Milano series in Milan; and appearances in Salzburg, Tokyo and Korea.
Sergey's first recital recording was issued on EMI's 'Début' label. The present recording of the Khachaturian and Sibelius Concertos with Emmanuel Krivine and Sinfonia Varsovia marks the beginning of his collaboration with the French label Naive Classique.
An 18th-Century Guadagnini violin is on loan to Sergey from the Baden-Wuettemberg Antique Musical Instruments Society.
