The Cincinnati Pops orchestra will tour China and
Singapore in October, with a repertoire that will likely include music from
Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings.
It will be the first time that a US pops orchestra tours China.
The weeklong tour will include two performances at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, a performance at the Shanghai Grand Stage during the China Shanghai International Arts Festival and two performances at Singapore's Esplanade Concert Hall.
One program will consist of fantasy film music, likely to include selections from Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the orchestra said.
Another program will draw from themes, medleys and pieces from popular movies like Ben-Hur, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Doctor Zhivago, Cats and Chicago.
The Cincinnati Pops is one of the world's most active
classical pops ensembles and maintains a year-round performing and recording
schedule. Conductor Erich Kunzel has 78 Cincinnati Pops releases on the Telarc
label, 54 of which have appeared on the Billboard charts of best-selling
recordings.
