The Opéra Bastille in Paris.PARIS — Paris's Bastille Opera House [part of the Opéra National de Paris] introduces a low-priced standing room section when the season opens Friday [September 9], joining the likes of Vienna's State Opera and The Metropolitan in New York.

Tickets will cost a mere 5 euros (about US$6.30) for access to the standing room, located at the back of the orchestra section with "excellent visibility," the opera said in a statement.

Opera lovers hoping to tap into the bargain should expect lines. Sixty-two standing room tickets will be sold for each performance, starting 45 minutes before the curtain goes up. Tickets will be sold from machines in the lobby, with a limit of two per person.
